Pipelayer # 1

Primary Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Determine grade of trenching using tools including lasers, grade rods and transit
  • Hand-digging and grading trenches to place pipe in.
  • Prepare pipe bedding surface using tamping machines and hand
  • Laying sections of pipe and completing connections between pipe
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or
  • Operate cutting equipment to cut various types of piping
  • Completing welds on sections of HDPE pipe with fusing
  • Making connections to existing infrastructure including sewer lines, water lines and land drainage
  • Operate small powered equipment and hand tools
  • Install and repair sanitary and stormwater sewer structures and pipe systems

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) years of pipelaying experience
  • Strong work ethic and be consistently punctual
  • Ability to travel where projects dictate
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to work long and unpredictable hours
  • Possess a positive attitude, be a team player and work well in a work group
  • Ability to communicate effectively with crew members including the written and spoken
  • Ability to think logically about work at hand and compare site conditions with project
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
  • Criminal Background Check as required for secure sites
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications/Assets:

  • Five (5) years of heavy construction field experience; preferably underground

Knowledge or experience in:

  • Tunnel boring equipment operations experience
  • Watermain, gravity sewers, manhole installation
  • HDPE pipe fusing (electro-fusion coupler or fusing machine)
  • Understanding of basic mechanical repairs
  • Ability to read drawings and other project related documents

Hours of Work: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm

Hour Wage Range: $24.42 – $33.30 (depending upon experience, qualifications)
